First bear encounter of the season

As soon as the weather turned hot in Juneau, the bear sightings started. I was working downtown on an unseasonably warm day that reached 86 degrees, when I had my first bear encounter of the season.

After this bear passed the coffee shop next to the store I work at, I watched it steal a bag of muffins on an outdoor shelf and then run up the stairway behind the building. As I was trying to capture the perfect image of the bear theif in action, the local police took charge of the situation. They yelled at the humans to give the bear space while yelling at the bear to go away. Within a few moments, the bear and crowd of onlookers disappeared and life resumed as normal.
